Air Quality Advisory Extended for Northeast Ohio 
Thursday, July 8, 2010 - Ozone and Fine Particles

 
Northeast Ohio - The existing Air Quality Advisory is being extended for one more day.  Thursday, July 8, will be hot and humid.  The wind is now not scheduled to shift or bring rain before Friday morning - it is anticipated that the Advisory will end on Friday.

The counties of Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, and Summit will remain under an Advisory through Thursday.  Both ozone and fine particles have been in the "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups" range for several days.  Urban areas and eastern counties have been affected the most.

 
Everyone, but especially older adults, children, and those with heart or respiratory conditions, are advised to limit outdoor activity during the heat.
 
Ozone is formed by hot sunshine by car and truck exhaust, industrial emissions, and evaporating paints and solvents.  Fine particles are formed from exhaust and emissions, combined with moisture.

Get more miles per gallon (MPG)!  Use these tips:
 
1.)  Don't turn left!  If you can plot your route to avoid left turns, you'll idle less and get more MPG.
2.)  Empty the trunk.  Extra weight means fewer miles per gallon.
3.)  Ease off the gas, rather than accelerating, toward each red light.
4.)  Check your tire pressure and tune up your car.  Get your money's worth from each gallon of gas!
